Kimberley Whale Festival a Great Success

The Inaugural Kimberley Whale Festival held in Broome on the 7th of June 2009 was a great success, with hundreds of Broome locals involved on the day.

Events started at Cable Beach with approximately 200 people forming the word Kimberley and the shape of a whale for an aerial photo, and continued outside the surfclub with a whale song listening post, face painting and photos for the IFAW "Tails for Whales" project.

The childrens' art competition at the Boulevarde produced some stunning entries. Judging was difficult with some entries tied for places.

Matso's Broome Brewery provided the a sausage sizzle and the venue for the Fish Cake Cook-off, with local home and professional chefs serving up a tasty array of fish cakes of all descriptions. Judging was tight, and some swinging Sunday Session music ensured that the event will certainly be on the calendar for next year.

Events wrapped up with whale films under the stars on the grass near the Surf Club back at Cable Beach.
